DW News published this video item, entitled “Video: Remainder of Florida Condo demolished in controlled explosion | DW News” – below is their description.

A controlled explosion brought down what was left of the collapsed condo in the Florida town of Surfiside, near Miami. Authorities hope this will ease the search for victims by giving them access to new areas of the rubble.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava expressed relief that the unstable building would no longer pose a threat to those involved in the search effort.

The decision came after the structure shifted, prompting concerns it was at risk of falling. The approach of Tropical Storm Elsa made the demolition more urgent.

A large part of the apartment building collapsed on June 24. More than 20 people have been confirmed dead so far, and over 100 are still unaccounted for.
