Israel has said it will investigate Shireen Abu Akleh’s killing and offered to do so in conjunction with Palestinian officials. The offer was declined.
In a tweet, the Palestine Liberation Organization’s Hussein al-Sheikh explained: “Israel requested a joint investigation and asked for the bullet that assassinated Shireen, we refused that. We affirmed that our investigation would be completed independently and we will inform her family, the US, Qatar and all official and popular authorities of the results of the investigation. All indications, evidence and witnesses confirm she was assassinated by Israeli special units.”
Video analysis of where Shireen was killed contradicts Israel’s original account of the shooting.
