Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews says his government is backing a push to have overseas travellers tested for the coronavirus before boarding a flight to Australia. “It doesn’t necessarily mean they wouldn’t be allowed to come home, it may be, but that would need to be the subject of a National Cabinet decision,” he said. Mr Andrews said they found it unacceptable that passengers who may be positive to the virus are fitted into a plane with other passengers for potentially a long flight – meaning all the passengers and cabin crew could contract the virus. “Whilst we treat every returned traveller as a potential positive, the assumption is that they’ve got the virus, if we know that certain people have the virus then we can take better care of them and we can better manage the risk to public health,” he said.
