    President Nicolas Maduro has extended his grip on power as the governing socialist party took control of Venezuela’s congress, the last national institution the opposition had held.

    Maduro’s party swept legislative polls last month which the opposition boycotted, saying they were a sham.

    Some analysts say the loss of the National Assembly may jeopardise opposition leader Juan Guaido’s political future.
