Vandals set light to bollard in protest at Oxford LTN scheme

The Telegraph published this video item, entitled “Vandals set light to bollard in protest at Oxford LTN scheme” – below is their description.

A clash between residents and drivers was highlighted when CCTV footage was released showing how anti-low traffic neighbourhood motorists in Oxford had resorted to arson and physical damage by tearing down plastic bollards erected by the council.

The bollards, which are meant to calm traffic in the roads in Oxford, have been torn down, run over or set fire to by irate drivers.

Some furious objectors have even gone out on foot into Howard Street, Oxford and deliberately destroyed the bollards, while other residents recently showed their support for the bollards through standing in the road to form a human barrier, to prevent cars from entering the area.

Council chiefs in Oxford have now decided to spend £100,000 on replacing the plastic bollards with steel ones to prevent them being uprooted.
