US says Trump ‘committed to resolving’ Gulf Arab diplomatic crisis

The White House says US President Donald Trump is committed to helping resolve an unprecedented diplomatic rift between Qatar and other Gulf Arab nations, including Saudi Arabia.

But some analysts believe that Trump’s trip to the region, in which he made a massive arms deal with Saudi Arabia, may have emboldened Riyadh to cut diplomatic ties and impose a land, sea and air embargo.

A number of other nations in and outside of the Gulf region – such as the Maldives and Egypt – are believed to be influenced by the kingdom, and have made the same moves against Qatar.

Al Jazeera’s Kimberly Halkett reports from Washington, DC.
