Global News published this video item, entitled “US releases declassified video of botched drone strike on Kabul home” – below is their description.
U.S. Central Command on Wednesday released declassified video from a botched drone attack that killed 10 civilians in Kabul, Afghanistan in August in the final days before American troops withdrew from the country.
The U.S. said it had had intelligence the Islamic State Khorasan, or ISIS-K, was plotting an attack against the airport using a white Toyota Corolla. But a Pentagon review found they tracked the wrong vehicle after it had shown up at an ISIS-K location.
The driver of the Corolla that was subsequently hit by the drone strike was a man who worked for a California-based aid organization.
While the review found the incident did not violate any laws of war, it left decisions on punishment up to the two senior commanders. In December, The Pentagon said no military personnel involved in the botched strike would face any kind of punishment.
