US on Afghanistan withdrawal deadline: Only Biden decides

Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “US on Afghanistan withdrawal deadline: Only Biden decides” – below is their description.

President Joe Biden will unilaterally decide on the final date for US troops to leave Afghanistan, says National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.

Biden had set the deadline as August 31 but tempered that by saying that his forces had to ensure that all Americans would be airlifted out first.

Biden is expected to announce his plans by the end of Tuesday.

The Taliban has threatened “consequences” if the end date is not adhered to.

Nearly 37,000 people have been evacuated since August 14.

Al Jazeera’s John Hendren reports from Washington, DC, the US.
