Dozens of US Democratic politicians are calling on Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to release jailed journalists and critics of his regime. They say prisoners’ lives are at risk because of coronavirus outbreaks in overcrowded and dangerous conditions. Egypt has cracked down on dissent since el-Sisi took control seven years ago, following a military coup. But US President Donald Trump has consistently shown support for el-Sisi. Al Jazeera’s Laura Burdon-Manley reports. –
