It has been the centre of United States military operations against al-Qaeda and the Taliban for nearly 20 years.

Now, Bagram airbase has been transferred back to the Afghan government after US and NATO forces left the facility.

The Taliban has welcomed the withdrawal, describing it as a positive step, and called for a complete withdrawal of all foreign troops.
