As the daily number of new Covid-19 cases soared in the United States, the Midwest has been hit particularly hard. In the state of Wisconsin, residents are being tested for the coronavirus in 243 testing centres. A record 5,922 cases were reported on November 5, 2020, and 32 per cent of the people being tested have returned positive results, the highest seven-day average figure recorded. The community tests set up by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services are free, and some are located in drive-through facilities that do not require people to leave their cars to be tested.
