US: Chicago’s sharp racial divide

Downtown Chicago is prospering. Property values are rising, Summer concerts and festivals have brought in more people and helped the economy.

But there is another side to the city – where there’s poverty, despair and danger from gangs and, residents say, from police.

And that’s the part of town where most of Chicago’s black residents live.

Just on Saturday night alone, three people were killed and over a dozen wounded in drive by shootings.

Al Jazeera’s John Hendren reports.
