US Capitol riot: Ocasio-Cortez says there was “no safe space” during attack

Global News published this video item, entitled “US Capitol riot: Ocasio-Cortez says there was “no safe space” during attack” – below is their description.

Democratic U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said there was “no safe space” during last week’s siege of the U.S. Capitol.

“Everyone who was in that building was in danger. And I can tell you that there were children in the Capitol complex. You know, it wasn’t just members of Congress,” the U.S. Congresswoman said during a virtual town hall meeting on Friday.

On Wednesday, Jan. 6, hundreds of protesters marched from a Trump rally near the White House to the Capitol and stormed the building.

Lawmakers from the Senate and the House of Representatives were evacuated as they met to confirm Biden’s victory in the Nov. 3 election.

Ocasio-Cortez, who is a target of conservative media, said “I did not go to the secure location because I feared other members of Congress that would have allowed harm to me. So I was not in a secure location that day. I was almost never in a secure location that day.”

During the 90-minute virtual meeting, Ocasio-Cortez assured her constituents that she and her staff were “doing alright.”

Since last week’s siege, Ocasio-Cortez said she has “demanded the resignations” of Senators Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley and Kevin McCarthy, accusing them of “a dereliction of duty and a betrayal of our country.”

She also promised accountability.
