The United States and South Korea held combined live-fire drills on May 25, 2022, in response to North Korea conducting missile launches hours after US President Joe Biden left Asia. During the South Korean leg of his Asia visit in May, Biden agreed with his South Korean counterpart Yoon Suk-yeol to hold bigger military drills and deploy more US strategic assets if necessary to deter North Korea’s intensifying weapons tests.
