European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said Britain and the EU are “on the very last mile to go, but it’s an essential one”.
It comes as Downing Street said a no-deal Brexit was a “possible” outcome from the EU trade talks, signalling that there had been some improvement since Boris Johnson said it was the “most likely” scenario on Sunday.
The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “Obviously no-deal is a possible outcome, as the Prime Minister has said himself.
“But we have been clear that we will continue to work and hope to reach a free trade agreement.”
