A United Nations peacekeeper who helped women in Darfur secure safety has been recognized with a prestigious award for gender advocacy.
Major Steplyne Nyaboga, from Kenya who served in Darfur, won the United Nations Military Gender Advocate Award. Major Nyaboga received the award during a virtual ceremony marking the International Day of UN Peacekeepers.
She spoke candidly about the bias within peacekeeping and the need for a cultural shift to allow more women to serve.
