United Nations published this video item, entitled “UN Chief Visits Refugees in New York City for World Refugee Day | United Nations” – below is their description.
António Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General, visits refugees for World Refugee Day 2022.
“People react negatively, in abstract, but when they see concrete human situations, that makes them change. That’s why it’s so important to have a testimony, and especially of a refugee that succeeds in society.”
For World Refugee Day, UN Secretary-General António Guterres visited refugees living in New York City. He met with Ms. Suzan Al Shammari, an Iraqi refugee who has fled from Baghdad to Cairo, Egypt, with her family in 2010. They were registered with the UN refugee agency, UNHCR, and eventually resettled in the United States. Guterres then met an Afghani couple, Mr. Shafi Alif and Ms. Rohina Sofizada. Mr. Alif fled from Afghanistan to Pakistan when he was 5 months old and stayed there for over 10 years. He then resettled in the United States with the help from UNHCR.
