United Nations published this video item, entitled “Ukraine /Zaporizhzhia plant: any damage ‘could spell catastrophe’ – UN Chief is gravely concerned” – below is their description.
The UN Secretary-General told the Security Council that he is “gravely concerned” about the situation in and around the Zaporizhzhia plant, in Ukraine, and that any damage “could spell catastrophe, not only for the immediate vicinity, but for the region and beyond.”
Addressing the Council today (7 Sep), António Guterres said that “common sense and cooperation must guide the way forward” and that “any action that might endanger the physical integrity, safety or security of the nuclear plant is unacceptable.”
“All efforts to re-establish the plant as purely civilian infrastructure are vital”, the UN chief added.
Guterres also highlighted two essential steps: first, Russian and Ukrainian forces must commit not to engage in any military activity towards the plant site or from the plant site; second, an agreement on a demilitarized perimeter should be secured.
