US president Joe Biden meets his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin today in a video conference. They’ll be discussing Russia’s troop buildup on its border with Ukraine. The US has threatened severe economic consequences if Russia invades its neighbor. In recent weeks the US has reported that Russian troops were massing in several locations close to Ukraine and Belarus. Moscow says it wants security guarantees from neighboring countries and NATO.

Overlooking the Dnieper River is the Kiev Pechersk Lavra monastery complex, a Christian pilgrimage site housing Scythian tomb relics and catacombs containing mummified Orthodox monks.
