As the UK reopens, new numbers show just how much it’s cost the government to keep the economy going. Public borrowing surged to record levels over the past three months. In the April-June quarter it hit 127.9 billion pounds – or about 162 billion dollars. That’s more than double the total for the whole of the previous year.
