Daily Mail published this video item, entitled “UK Covid-19: Boris Johnson says UK-US travel will open ‘in time for Thanksgiving'” – below is their description.

Bookings surged by more than 90 per cent within an hour of the President’s (left) announcement and airlines’ share prices rocketed. The White House will lift the 18-month blanket ban on foreign travellers – introduced by Donald Trump – for the first time since the start of the pandemic. Prime Minister Boris Johnson (right) said he was ‘delighted’ President Biden was ‘reinstating transatlantic travel’. He also said it will be ‘great that family and friends on both sides of the pond can be reunited once again’. Britain dropped restrictions on fully-vaccinated US visitors in July as a ‘goodwill gesture’. But, to the concern of ministers and anger of the travel industry, the US had not reciprocated. Today’s decision was welcomed by the travel sector, as aviation chiefs said air links between the two countries are ‘part of the bedrock of the global economy’.

Thanksgiving is best known as a holiday celebrated in the United States on the fourth Thursday of November every year, usually through feasting, parades and travel to see family and friends, though celebrations were scaled back during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.

The roots of the modern celebration lie in settlers celebrating their arrival in the Americas in the early 1600’s. It has been a public holiday since 1941 due to federal legislation, an annual tradition in the United States by presidential proclamation since 1863 and by state legislation since the Founding Fathers of the United States.

Traditionally, Thanksgiving has been a celebration of the blessings of the year, including the harvest. What Americans call the “Holiday Season” generally begins with Thanksgiving. The first day after Thanksgiving Day—Black Friday—marks the start of the Christmas shopping season.
