Uganda’s enduring lockdown pits health against livelihoods | COVID-19 Special

DW News published this video item, entitled “Uganda’s enduring lockdown pits health against livelihoods | COVID-19 Special” – below is their description.

The pandemic is resurging in 12 of Africa’s 54 countries, the World Health Organization reported last week, saying the current wave is “picking up speed, spreading faster, hitting harder.”, as the delta variant drives infections in many countries. Uganda is among African countries that have seen a dramatic rise in the number of coronavirus infections amid a severe vaccine shortage. The country is battling a resurgence of coronavirus infections, driven mostly by the delta variant. The government has tightened restrictions, closing schools, imposing a nighttime curfew and banning all nonessential travel. While hospitals grapple with oxygen shortages, the country continues to wait for desperately needed vaccines.
