DW News published this video item, entitled “Uber: Minimum wage, holiday pay & pension – Will other regions follow? | DW News” – below is their description.
Ride-hailing app Uber will treat its 70,000 drivers in Britain as workers instead of contractors. That means the drivers can now receive a minimum wage, paid holiday and – if elligible – even pension plans. This move follows litigation and a recent loss for the company in the British Supreme Court. It’s unclear what this means for Uber’s operations in other countries. The tech company claims that the status of “worker” is unique to UK employment law and maintains the drivers are not catergorized as “employees.”
