The UAE has successfully launched the Arab world’s first interplanetary exploration mission.
The Emirati Hope (Amal) orbiter separated from the Mitsubishi H-IIA rocket and is heading for Mars, aiming to get there by February 2021. The ground team in Dubai has established communications with the probe and received its first transmission to Earth.
The probe will monitor the atmosphere on the Red Planet, studying its condition and recording any climate change. The spacecraft will inspect Mars from above, using infrared and ultraviolet spectrometers, and a camera.
