Bloomberg QuickTake: Now published this video item, entitled “Trump Says Democrats Will Pack the Supreme Court with Radicals” – below is their description.
President Donald Trump on Saturday spoke at a rally in Middletown, Pennsylvania, commenting on his nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. Trump promised that Barrett, if elected, would defend “God-given rights and freedoms”, calling her “a brilliant legal mind” and “an extraordinary scholar”. Barrett’s nomination to the Supreme Court seat vacated by the late Judge Ruth Bader Ginsberg was announced hours earlier in the rose garden of the White House. Her nomination has been criticized by Democratic Party Presidential nominee Joe Biden, who claimed it was part of Republicans’ effort to scrap the 2010 health care law passed by his former boss, President Barack Obama. During the rally, Trump also took aim at what he called “the far left”, referencing Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, claiming that “if given power” they would “pack the Supreme Court with radicals who will terminate the Second Amendment”. “These left-wing justices will cripple police departments, protect sanctuary cities and declare the death penalty unconstitutional for even the most depraved mass murderers”, he said. The President also criticized Joe Biden’s plans to shift towards clean energy with net-zero carbon emissions, saying it would shut down “all fracking” in Pennsylvania and would lead to “sending new jobs overseas”.
