Global News published this video item, entitled “Trudeau says detained Canadians “absolute priority” amid reports of possible Meng Wanzhou deal” – below is their description.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Friday that the safe return of two Canadians, Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig, detained in China remains an “absolute priority” amid reports of a potential deal between the U.S. Department of Justice and representatives for Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou.
Trudeau would not comment specifically on the report, but the deferred prosecution agreement reportedly being discussed would see Meng be allowed to return to China. However, it would require her to admit to wrongdoing, something she is reportedly not prepared to do.
As Abigail Bimman reports, the possible agreement has raised hopes the two Canadians held in China, apparently in retaliation, could be released, but Meng has to carefully weigh her options.
