Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau provided an update on the country’s COVID-19 response and vaccine rollout. He was joined by chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam and deputy chief public health officer Dr. Howard Njoo.

On Monday, Canada was expected to begin receiving more than two million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine each week, which is prompting several provinces to expand access to vaccines.

The prime minister’s update also comes a day after the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommended the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine to adults 30 years and older. However, they gave the advice with a caveat that barring any pre-determined health risks, the committee recommended the shot “if the individual does not wish to wait for an mRNA vaccine and if the benefits outweigh the risk for the individual.”
