Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to give an update on Canada’s COVID-19 pandemic and vaccine rollout on Tuesday.

Last Friday, Trudeau said the government wants to see vaccination rates of at least 75 per cent of people with one dose and 20 per cent with both doses before they look at re-opening the land border with the United States.

Seventy-five per cent of eligible Canadians have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, while at least 18 per cent are fully vaccinated with two doses.

The border will remain closed for at least another month, Public Safety Minister Bill Blair announced earlier on Friday.

As of June 21, 2021 at 10:22 p.m. ET, Canada’s seven-day rolling average of new COVID-19 cases had dropped below 1,000 for the first time since last September, as many provinces posted new lows in their daily case counts.
