Trade war spat between Canberra and Beijing ‘escalating dangerously’

Sky News Australia published this video item, entitled “Trade war spat between Canberra and Beijing ‘escalating dangerously'” – below is their description.

Sky News host Chris Kenny says the “spat” between Canberra and Beijing is escalating dangerously as China increases tariffs up to 200 per cent on Australian wine exporters, claiming they are dumping wine in China and selling it at artificially low prices. “All Australia has done is stand up for our values and interests, stand up for international law, and point out that we need to know exactly how the COVID-19 pandemic originated,” he said. “If you ever had any doubt about the malevolent capabilities of the Chinese communist regime you only have to look at how they are deliberately hurting us; a respected trading partner and a friendly nation. “Imagine if we decided to stop exporting milk powder to China, imagine the mothers and babies who would suffer. There would be justifiable outrage. Yet they hurt us however they like, and do so with impunity.” Mr Kenny said the idea of China’s outrage around goods being exported to the rest of the world at artificially low prices is ludicrous because it is the very foundation of Chinese success. “And what has China’s most significant export been over the past 12 months? Well, it’s been the coronavirus. It has exported a virus that has created trauma and recession across the globe,” he said. “And they whine about what we send to China. Gimme a break. “I’d hate to be a diplomat or foreign minister right now. We can’t take a backward step. We must call out China’s unreasonable tactics, but we know it will risk more punishment. We need more significant trading partners and we need them soon.”
