Japan has scrapped plans to deploy a U.S. anti-missile system. Defense Minister Taro Kono confirmed this days after saying the Aegis Ashore program had been suspended. Under the plan, interceptors for the system were to be placed in two regions. But the plan was met with strong opposition from local residents over the risks it could pose.
