ABC News (Australia) published this video item, entitled “Time running out to restore historic Tasmanian steamship Cartela | ABC News” – below is their description.
It is almost impossible to find a southern Tasmanian over the age of 35 who doesn’t have a story about Cartela.
Cartela was built in 1912 — the same year as the Titanic — and 18 months later was conscripted to serve as a Royal Australian Navy vessel during World War I.
It operated continuously in Tasmania until 2014.
Plans have been underway for a number of years to restore the much-loved steam ship to its former glory.
