An estimated 10,000 demonstrators took to the streets in the Hungarian capital, Budapest on June 5, 2021, to protest against the construction of a satellite campus for Shanghai’s Fudan University. The site was originally designated for building affordable housing for 12,000 students. Budapest mayor Gergely Karacsony was among those joining the demonstration against the university project proposed by right-wing Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is a close ally of Beijing.
