The West Block: Dec. 11, 2022 | Why national security of critical minerals is important

Global News published this video item, entitled “The West Block: Dec. 11, 2022 | Why national security of critical minerals is important” – below is their description.

On this episode of The West Block: National security concerns were one of the driving factors of the Liberal government’s new critical minerals strategy unveiled on Friday, which deals with minerals such as lithium and cobalt that are needed to build electric vehicles and other eco-friendly technology. Our host Mercedes Stephenson spoke with Minister of Natural Resources Jonathan Wilkinson about how these minerals will power the 21st century and why Canadians should care about this new plan.

And NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is criticizing the Liberal government for failing to take action on the health-care crisis, high inflation and gun control. Yet, he’s still in the supply and confidence agreement, which keeps the Liberals in power with NDP support until 2025. As the House of Commons breaks for the holidays this week, Stephenson spoke to Singh about what he’s getting out of this agreement and whether that’s enough to compromise on key issues.
