The ventilators the NHS needs going into mass production – and it’s not from Dyson | ITV News

The UK’s ITV News reported that thousands of ventilators were being produced in the UK, and not by Dyson.

With medical experts saying the key bit of kit to keep alive seriously ill coronavirus patients is a ventilator, it was left to the prime minister’s spokesperson to explain when more may be arriving.

The UK has 8,000 at the moment and another 8,000 are coming.

But it will take months for all of them to arrive.

Meanwhile another 10,000 have been ordered from a consortium of some of the biggest names in engineering, including BAe, Rolls Royce, Mercedes and McLaren – production starts on Monday.

It remains to be seen if the UK can produce sufficient machines in time to cope with peak demand. If they cannot, it will make their initial “business as usual” approach to the virus appear absurd and flippant.
