To Kenya now and nomadic communities in its poorest region have fallen victim to Chinese appetites: donkey meat is both a delicacy in China and is used in its medicine. Donkey theft is increasingly attractive to criminal gangs as meat and hides fetch large sums.
But for locals, donkeys are a vital means of transport so now they are fighting back against the thieves.
