The rise and fall of the CHOP empire

Seattle’s ‘summer of love’ came to an abrupt end as CHAZ got the CHOP this week. The mayor who initially gave the project the green light, Jenny Durkan, ordered the recapture of the six blocks that were taken over by protesters. Police swarmed in and forcibly removed the remaining stragglers. The first signs of trouble in paradise began with reports of food shortages and burglaries, and videos of minors being armed circulating the web. Simmering tension soon culminated in a shooting which left a 19-year-old dead and another man critically injured. The party was therefore over for the residents of CHAZ, and a return to law and order ensues.
