The impeachment trial of President Trump divided America and captivated the world. At the center of it all was Rudolph W. Giuliani, the president’s old friend from New York. Along with his associates Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, Giuliani worked to get rid of Marie Yovanovitch, the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine at the time and a champion of the anti-corruption movement. He also pushed for Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden and his son, just as the former vice president announced he was challenging Trump in 2020. As Giuliani waged his shadow pressure campaign, the Trump administration withheld millions of dollars in military aid to Ukraine and denied its new president an urgently sought White House meeting.
