While widespread rain forecast for New South Wales in coming days will be welcomed by many, it will take repeated and steady falls to resolve a water crisis looming for country towns across the state.
The town of Gloucester, north of Newcastle, normally benefits from reliable coastal rain, and has its rivers filled from the alpine area of the Barrington Tops.
But the land is now brown, the rivers are dry, and the town has run out of water.
The ABC’s Ben Millington went to Gloucester to speak with the locals who are questioning their future and praying for rain.
