    The appalling pictures we’ve seen from India recently show how damaging the Covid variant discovered there can be.

    The exact scale of harm is difficult to calculate, particularly in the countryside.

    That’s partly down to a lack of testing. But it’s also due to the stigma surrounding the virus, with families denying it’s to blame.

    With so many dying, some resort to disposing of bodies in the Ganges, the dead washing up on its shores – a disturbing sight which we should warn you features in this next report.
