The Gambia gears up for first election after Yahya Jammeh

Gambians head to the polls on Thursday for the country’s first parliamentary election since the end of Yahya Jammeh’s 22-year rule.

Jammeh stepped aside in January after losing the presidential vote to Adama Barrow.

More than 230 candidates are campaigning for 53 seats in the national assembly.

Al Jazeera’s Nicolas Haque reports from the capital Banjul.
