Canberra pensioner Diane rents a modest apartment in Amaroo, in Canberra’s north, and she loves it.

So when she received a letter in June informing her that her rent would increase from $360 to $400 per week, she questioned whether she would be able to make ends meet.

She’s been able to negotiate a smaller increase, but wants to speak about the process to help other renters who may may not know what their rights are when they’re asked to pay a new rent above the consumer price index.
