Across the world masks have become a symbol of the global effort to curb the spread of COVID-19. But exactly how effective they are depends partly on the type of mask you’re wearing.

Tom Joyner reports that some experts believe the common surgical mask isn’t enough for frontline health workers.

  • a persistent new cough (non productive, dry)
  • a high temperature (e.g. head feels warm to the touch)
  • shortness of breath (if this is abnormal for the individual, or increased)
