The coronavirus pandemic has left musicians in Venice struggling to make ends meet, loosing jobs at venues that rely on international tourism.
Francesco Socal is a clarinet and saxophone player who has lost his job in an orchestra at St Marks place. The job kept him afloat for 8 years and allowed him to help manage an independent venue called Argo16.
Socal says that Venice already had a problem with supporting its artists, lacking bottom up culture despite many renown international events.
The pandemic may have accelerated a local crisis that was already there.
