John Kewa has a message for the crew quarantined aboard the Ruby Princess cruise ship:
“It’s not your fault. You are just like anybody else who’s gone to work and suddenly you find yourself in this situation and we are thinking of you. We hope everything gets better and better and you can go back home soon to meet your families.”
John is pastoral carer at the Port Kembla chapter of the Mission to Seafarers, a Christian welfare charity serving merchant crews around the world.
“Every day we receive up to 50 people, individuals, children, couples… constantly dropping off goods, letters, messages for the crew. We are a caring community and we can reach out to those people, unfortunately caught and quarantined on the ship.”
John helped the Mission provide every crew member with a care package of donated provisions; 1,100 boxes of friendship in all.
