The Art Gallery of New South Wales’ modern extension, the North Building, was officially opened by the NSW premier today.
“I want to thank the architects, SANAA, who I think have done a remarkable job here…I love good architecture, there are buildings that I want to knock down in this city, and this is not one of them. This great gallery has been designed incredibly well”, NSW Premier Dom Perrottet.
The generosity of Isaac Wakil, the late-Susan Wakil’s husband, was noted by the premier. The Susan and Isaac Wakil Foundation donated $24 million to assist in the construction of the art gallery’s North Building.
This weekend is the start of nine days of exhibitions and workshops to celebrate the cultural milestone.
