Greece’s largest deployment of uniformed personnel to United Nations Peacekeeping is to the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

More than 100 women and men from Greece serve in Lebanon with the Maritime Task Force (MTF) a resource under UNIFIL’s jurisdiction.

Established in 2006 at the request of the Government of Lebanon, UNIFIL’s MTF supports the Lebanese Armed Forces Navy in monitoring its territorial waters,

securing the Lebanese coastline and preventing the unauthorized entry of arms by sea into Lebanon.

Greece is one of 15 countries that have contributed to the MTF since 2006.
