Thailand mourns death of longest-reigning monarch

King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the world’s longest-reigning monarch, died aged 88 in Bangkok’s Siriraj Hospital on Thursday, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha announced.

Throughout the previous day, hundreds of people gathered outside the hospital to pray for the king on hearing news of his deteriorating health. Many in the crowd broke down in tears once the announcement of his death was made.
