Sky News Australia published this video item, entitled “Text messages among suite of new evidence handed to Victoria’s hotel inquiry” – below is their description.
Victoria’s hotel quarantine inquiry has been handed text messages Premier Daniel Andrews sent to his Chief of Staff, among a suite of new key documents handed to the inquiry on its final day of hearings. The new material related to the decision to hire private security guards at the quarantine hotels, Professor Brett Sutton’s prior knowledge of hiring private security, and the health department’s role in the failed scheme. The new evidence tended to the inquiry included an affidavit from the former secretary of the premier’s department and cabinet, Chris Eccles and text messages from him and a new statement from the Premier. A new affidavit and material from Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton and the Secretary of the Department of Jobs Simon Phemister, an affidavit and phone records from former police chief Graham Ashton and a statement from Police Minister Lisa Neville. Mr Andrews again dodged questions about who hired security as he today fronted the inquiry. The sitting comes one-month after initial statements and phone records had been requested. Up to 99 per cent of Victoria’s second COVID-19 wave was linked back to outbreaks at two quarantine hotels. The final report is due to be handed down on December 21.
