At least 51 migrants have died after being trapped inside a sweltering tractor-trailer truck found abandoned in Texas as two Mexican nationals were charged in US federal court. The incident marked the greatest loss of life on record from a human trafficking attempt in the United States. For more analysis on this unprecedented smuggling tragedy, France 24 is joined by Pamela Genghiní Muñoz, Immigration Attorney with The Islas Muñoz Law Firm and former President of the Board of Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center. “When you prevent refugees from even reaching your borders to seek asylum, they are going to continue to put themselves in the hands of dangerous and careless people who have very little regard for human life and will end up having these tragedies continue,” explains Ms. Genghiní Muñoz.
