Bloomberg Quicktake: Now published this video item, entitled “Texas Abortion Law Is ‘Ploy’ to Dodge Roe v. Wade, U.S. Argues” – below is their description.

A new Texas law severely restricting abortion is a “ploy” to evade Roe v. Wade but will have an impact far beyond reproductive rights if it isn’t overturned, a lawyer for the U.S. told a judge.

The law creates a system of “vigilante justice” instead of enforcement by the state, attorney Brian Netter said at a hearing Friday on a U.S. request to temporarily put the ban on hold. The novel approach is an “unprecedented scheme” to dodge U.S. Supreme Court precedent — notably the 1973 landmark Roe decision guarding abortion rights — and, even more critically, to evade lawsuits against the state, Netter argued.
